My name is Michael Barnes, I am an artist, draughtsman and printmaker from Edinburgh, I am currently based in London.
My work generally revolves around perception and reinterpretation. I am very interested in experimental markmaking, the most prominent technique i use in my work is blind/semi-blind contour drawing, where the entire drawing is done in one line while looking at the paper as little as possible. Many of these drawings progress into prints, usually using screenprinting to add block colour panels before laying the lines over them.
I have recently developed a drawing machine with assistance from a programmer friend. This is a natural progression in my drawing style and the idea of reinterpretation. Although it is still early days, so there is still a lot of exciting things waiting to be explored and discovered with the machine and its capabilities.
